On 10 November 1991, the Panamanian oil tanker Svangen was struggling against rough weather conditions when it sank off Almeria (Spain).
Some 180 tonnes of fuel oil were spilt at sea. Aerial surveillance was carried out to monitor the evolution of the pollution in the area. Response operations were also conducted at sea.
