The container ship MSC Ilona, en route from Shenzhen to Shanghai,
was hit by the Panamanian container ship Hyundai Advance, damaging
her machine room. She lost 450 tonnes of bunker fuel at the mouth
of Pearl River. Response operations were oragnised and significant
damage was feared in what was the biggest oil spill ever to occur
in Chinese waters.
