The vessel was anchored opposite the military base. Around 11 pm on 5 November, a strom was brewing, and the vessel attempted unsuccessfully to head out to the open sea.
She grounded on some rocks. A crack in the bow of the hull caused more than 300 tonnes of diesel marine oil to be spilled from the machine room of the vessel.
