SaferSeas 2007.
Le Quartz, Brest, 9 October 2007.
Ensuring the safety of maritime transport and preventing marine pollution are two key
elements in the preservation of the marine environment. Yet, they are not enough. Despite all
the possible preventive measures, accidents will still occur and generate pollution that will
require suitable management The Cedre which was created in order to overcome such
problems has gained since 1978 international recognition through its involvement in the
search of technical solutions, in personnel training, and through its dedication to put
adequate response techniques into operational practice. In a post-Erika and post-Prestige
context, the Science Park “Technopôle Brest-Iroise” seized the opportunity to subscribe
national and European contracts in order to provide its members with new opportunities
complementary to the topics already dealt with by the Cedre. This new position has enabled
the members to address any aspect concerning marine pollution prevention or response to
this pollution.
This seminar intends to present new challenges of prevention and response to pollution
through new cooperations established at national and trans-national levels. These
cooperations have been set up in order to develop suitable answers to the complexity of the
problem. A debate between project managers and the floor will enable to take into
consideration the experiences gained from the projects, to discuss the agendas and to
strengthen operational cooperation networks.
