28 November to 2 December 2005, Brest.
This workshop was organised by Cedre with the support of the
European Commission (Directorate General Environment). It
took place in Brest (France) from November 28 to December
2, gathering more than 30 delegates of governmental authorities
from 15 European countries. This high level of participation
enabled fruitful discussions on the topic of illegal discharges
of oil due to the maritime traffic in the seas around Europe.
The workshop included seven round tables, dealing with all
the topics tackled in the program. It was attended by European
JRC and EMSA as well as French authorities involved in proceedings.
The opening speech session was given by Cedre’s director;
the representative of the European Commission gave a lecture
about the action of the European Commission on the matter
of pollution response. Lectures were given by representatives
of the Bonn Agreement in charge of pollution surveillance
and the president of the North Sea Network of Prosecutors
and observers responsible for exchanges between North Sea
members. Cedre presided over the debates concerning the workshop
recommendations derived from the first four days of discussions.
